How do I set NetSupport Manager/School to browse across multiple subnets?

If you are running NetSupport Manager or School across multiple TCP/IP subnets, you need to configure NetSupport to use the additional subnets when performing a browse of the network.

When adding a subnet, you can either add a broadcast address or a range of addresses.

It is useful to add a range of addresses if the subnet is behind a router that has UDP broadcasts disabled as this may prevent the Control/Tutor from finding the required Clients. By specifying the required IP address range a broadcast packet is sent to each machine (only Class C address ranges can be entered).

Note: If there are ten or more ranges, we recommend you use the NetSupport Connectivity Server (Gateway).

To change the browsing settings in NetSupport Manager

1. Select {Network} {Configure} from the Control window drop-down menu.
2. Select Connectivity – TCP/IP.
3. In the Browsing section, click Settings.
4. In the Configure TCP/IP Client Browsing dialog, click Add.
5. Add your local subnet’s broadcast address (e.g. 10.0.0.255).
6. Click Advanced to enter a range of IP addresses that you wish to browse across.

To change the browsing settings in NetSupport School

1. Select {School} {Configuration} from the Tutor Console drop-down menu.
2. Select Network and Wireless Settings.
3. In the Browsing section, click Settings.
4. In the Configure TCP/IP Client Browsing dialog, click Add.
5. Add your local subnet’s broadcast address (e.g. 10.0.0.255).
6. Click Advanced to enter a range of IP addresses that you wish to browse across.

Once you have finished adding the subnets, click OK. The Control/Tutor will re-initialise and you will be able to browse over all the subnets that you have chosen.

Note: It is vital that you include your own subnet broadcast address or you will no longer be able to browse across your network.
