The #1706 error message may appear in the following circumstances:

NetSupport School When two Tutor Console machines attempt to connect to the same Student.

NetSupport Manager When two Control machines attempt to connect to the same Client.

With both products, the error message appears as by default, the Student or Client only permits one Tutor Console or Control to connect at a time. It is possible to change this behaviour at the Student/Client in order to allow multiple Tutor Consoles/Controls to connect at the same time. For both NetSupport School and NetSupport Manager, the setting can be applied using two methods – via the Client32u.ini file or the ADMX Template files using Group Policy.

NetSupport School

Using the Student configuration Client32u.ini file Please follow the steps in the following technical article: Connecting to a NetSupport School Student from more than one Tutor

Using AD Group Policy First, you need to apply the ADMX Template files to your domain controller. Please see the following technical article: How to apply the NetSupport School ADMX files

Once applied, open your Group Policy Management Console and create a new policy at the level of your choice. We recommend that this setting is applied to the Students’ computers. The setting can be found in Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > NetSupport Student Settings > Security. Enable the policy called “Allow more than one Tutor to connect at a time”.

NetSupport Manager

Using the Client configuration Client32u.ini file

  1. On a machine with the NetSupport Manager Configurator installed, go to Start | All Programs | NetSupport Manager | NetSupport Manager Configuration (pcicfgui.exe) and start the program.
  2. Click Advanced.
  3. Double click Master Profile.
  4. Select Security – Connect.
  5. Tick Allow more than one Control to Connect at a time.

  1. Click OK, then Save and Yes if prompted to restart the Client.

The configuration change will be saved in the Client32.ini and Client32u.ini files. You can find them in the C:\Program Files (x86)\NetSupport\NetSupport Manager folder on the Client machine.

Using AD Group Policy First, you need to apply the ADMX Template files to your domain controller. Please see the following technical article: How to apply the NetSupport Manager ADMX files

Once applied, open your Group Policy Management Console and create a new policy at the level of your choice. We recommend that this setting is applied to the Clients’ computers. The setting can be found in Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > NetSupport Client Settings > Master Profile > Security > Connect. Enable the policy called “Allow multiple controls to connect at a time”.
