Configuring the NetSupport Connectivity Server details for NetSupport Manager Clients and Controls by Group Policy (GPO)

It is possible to configure the NetSupport Connectivity Server (Gateway) details by using the ADM templates that are provided with the NetSupport Manager Control installation.

First, you will need to apply the ADMX and ADML templates to the PolicyDefinitions folder on your Domain Controller. You will find the information on how to do this in the following technical article:

Once done, open the Group Policy Management Console and create a policy at the level of your choice (we recommend a level high enough to include all the Client and Control machines, e.g. Domain level) and navigate to the following settings:

Policy required to connect a NetSupport Manager Client to a Connectivity Server:

1. Client configuration: Administrative Templates|NetSupport Client Settings|Master Profile|Connectivity|Transport
2. The policy is called HTTP Gateway settings. Set it to ENABLED.
3. Enter the Server IP address, port number and the encrypted value of the Gateway key.*

Policy required to connect a NetSupport Manager Control to a Connectivity Server to browse for Clients across the Connectivity Server:

1. Control Configuration: Administrative Templates|NetSupport Manager Control|Connectivity|Transport|Gateway Connections
2. The policy is called Number of Gateways. Set it to ENABLED and select the number 1.
3. The policy is called Gateway Connection 1. Set it to ENABLED.
4. Enter the Server IP address, port number and the encrypted value of the Gateway key.**

* Getting the Gateway key encrypted value for the NetSupport Manager Client

1. On a machine with NetSupport Manager installed (with the Client and Client Configurator components), launch the Client configurator: PCICFGUI.exe. This is located in:
   32bit C:\Program Files\NetSupport\NetSupport Manager
   64bit C:\Program Files (x86)\NetSupport\NetSupport Manager
2. Select Advanced, and then double click Master Profile.
3. In the Connectivity section, select HTTP.

• • Enter the Server IP address and port number.
  • Select Set and enter the plain text value of the Gateway key twice.

4. Click OK to save the changes. Click Yes when prompted to restart the Client service.
5. On the Server machine, right click the NetSupport Connectivity Server Console icon in the taskbar and click Open.
6. Select the Clients tab. If all the details are correct, the machine will appear.
7. Open the Client32u.ini file located in:
   32bit C:\Program Files\NetSupport\NetSupport Manager
   64bit C:\Program Files (x86)\NetSupport\NetSupport Manager
8. Retrieve the encrypted value after GSKU=.

** Getting the Gateway key encrypted value for the NetSupport Manager Control

1. On a machine with Control Console installed, open the Control Console.
2. Click the Internet Gateways option on the left-hand side menu.
3. Double click on Add a Gateway. Enter a name and a description and click Next.

• • Enter the Server IP address and the port number and click Next.
  • Click Set and enter the plain text value of the Gateway key twice.

4. Click Finish to save the settings.
5. Open Regedit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\NetSupport Ltd\PCICTL\ConfigList\Standard
6. Copy the encrypted value found under HTTP\Gateway_Gsku_1.

Note: We recommend that you keep a record of these encrypted values for any future use.

You can now add the encrypted values to the GPOs to apply to your NetSupport Manager Clients and Controls.
