When connected to a NetSupport Manager Client or NetSupport School Student machine, the keyboard or keypad may not function correctly; some alphabet keys could turn into numeric keys. This most commonly occurs when the Control/Tutor is loaded on a laptop.

This is caused by the Control/Tutor machine setting the Num Lock on their machine to the same state as the Num Lock on the Client machine.

In the Control/Tutor, there is a setting that when applied, will disable the Num Lock synchronisation from the Control/Tutor to Client.

To disable Num Lock synchronisation
NetSupport Manager

  1. Select {Tools}{Configuration} from the Control window drop-down menu.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Select Remote ControlKeyboard/Mouse.

  1. Select the Disable Num lock synchronisation option.

NetSupport School

  1. Select {View}{Current Settings} from the Tutor Console drop-down menu.
  2. Select Remote ControlKeyboard/Mouse.

  1. Select the Disable Num lock synchronisation option.

If you are running a version prior to 8.0, the above setting is not available, instead press the Num Lock key on the Client machine. This will solve the problem as the Num Lock key allows the user to use keys that are not physically present. The reason this is found most commonly on laptops rather than a desktop workstation is that laptops do not use full keyboards and so keys will have more than two functions.
