Within NetSupport DNA, queries can be used to identify machines that have or do not have a specific program installed.

Creating a query
First, a query needs to be created to find the machines that do have the program installed. This then needs to be marked as a subquery so another query can be created to identify machines which do not have the program installed.

  1. In the DNA Console, select the Tools tab and click the Query Tool icon.
  2. To add a new query, click .
  3. The New Query dialog will appear. Add a name for the query (e.g. {program name} installed).
  4. Select the Options tab and select Mark as subquery. Click OK.
  5. The Query Tool Editor dialog will be displayed. Add the following source fields to the Display Fields section using the arrow keys:
    From the PC Information section:
    “Computer Name”
    From the Software Information > Software Inventory section:
    “Installed Program Name”
  6. You will also need to add the “Installed Program Name” source field to the Condition Fields section.
  7. In the Condition Editor dialog, select is equal to from the Condition drop-down list and enter the name of the program in the Value field or alternatively, click and select your program variant from the software list. Click OK.


Example Query Tool Editor

  1. To run this query, click . Once run, this will list all the machines which have the program installed.

Creating the main generic query

  1. Select . The New Query dialog will appear. Add a name for the query and click OK.
  2. The Query Tool Editor dialog will be displayed. Add the following source field to the Display Fields section using the arrow keys:
    From the PC Information section:
    “Computer Name”
  3. You will also need to add the “Installed Program Name” source field to the Condition Fields section.
  4. In the Condition Editor dialog, select not in subquery from the Condition drop-down list and click . Select the name of the subquery created above.
  5. To run the query, click . All machines that do not have the program installed will be listed.
