When updating NetSupport DNA from version 3.10 to version 4.40 onwards, due to the size of the upgrade jump and the number of changes made in between these versions, it is required to perform an incremental upgrade. First, you need to upgrade to version 4.30.002 before upgrading to a later version of the software.

Performing the upgrade to NetSupport DNA 4.30.0002
Before upgrading your version of NetSupport DNA, we recommend you create a backup of your database. For details on how to do this, please see How to backup and restore the NetSupport DNA database.

Ensure you have your NetSupport DNA version 4.0 licence details before starting the installation. You also need to contact Technical Support before upgrading, to access the 4.30.0002 download.

Before running the NetSupport DNA Setup.exe, we recommend you access the DNA Server directly. This may be done using NetSupport Manager/School (or a third-party remote control program), via a virtual machine Console (if using VMWare or Hyper-V), or physically on the server itself.

If your only method of accessing the DNA Server is via Remote Desktop (RDP), ensure you start a Console RDP session by running the following command:

mstsc /V:ServerNameorIPAddress /Admin

  1. Copy the NetSupport DNA Setup.exe onto the desktop of the server.
  2. Run the installation file.
  3. A Welcome screen will appear, click Next.
  4. Enter your NetSupport DNA 4.0 licence details. Browse to your DNA licence file, enter the licence key and click Next.
  5. The installation will upgrade your software to NetSupport DNA 4.30.0002.
  6. Any DNA Agents (Clients) on your network will automatically be updated the next time they connect to the DNA Server.
  7. Any additional 3.10 remote DNA Consoles will need to be updated manually using the same installation file as they are not automatically updated when they connect to the DNA Server.

Once the DNA Server has been updated to 4.30.0002, please allow some time for the DNA Agents to update to 4.30.0002 before proceeding to update the DNA Server to a later version of the software.

You can check if the Agents have updated to the new version by right clicking the department they are located in within the DNA Console hierarchy tree and selecting Agent Status. The Agent Status window will be displayed. This contains a DNA Agent column showing what version of DNA your Agents are running.

Performing the upgrade from NetSupport DNA 4.30.0002 to later versions
Once the DNA Server and Agents have been updated to 4.30.0002, you can then update to later versions of DNA.

  1. Download the NetSupport DNA Setup.exe to the desktop of the DNA Server.
  2. Run services.msc and stop all NetSupport DNA services.
  3. Take a full, verified backup of your existing NetSupport DNA database using the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. For further information on this, click here.
  4. Once the backup has completed, run the NetSupport DNA Setup.exe file from the desktop.
  5. Step through the installer, selecting Continue and Install when prompted.
  6. Click Finish at the end of the installation/upgrade process.
  7. Reboot the server machine. If a reboot is not convenient, run services.msc and confirm that all NetSupport DNA services are running (manually start any that are not running).
  8. Run and log into the DNA Console.

Existing DNA Agent machines will be automatically upgraded to the same version as the DNA Server, the next time they connect to the DNA Server.

Any DNA Consoles that are running on remote machines will be prompted to update the next time they log into the DNA Console. It is also possible to run the same NetSupport DNA Setup.exe on the Console machines to update them manually.

You have now successfully upgraded your DNA installation from version 3.10 to the latest version.
