This article applies to NetSupport School version 15.00. For information relating to version 14.00 and below, click here.

Within NetSupport School, it is possible to configure the room name for Windows Student devices and Tutors using the ADM templates provided with a NetSupport School Tutor installation.

Step 1
First, you need to import the NetSupport School Student and Tutor ADM or ADMX Template files into the GPO. To do this, please refer to the following technical article: How to apply the NetSupport School ADMX files.

Step 2 – Applying the Room name for the Students via Group Policy
Assuming the Student machines are split in AD OUs reflecting the different classrooms they belong in, you can set a room name for each OU.

  1. Create a GPO for each OU and navigate to the policy setting (we recommend that you apply this at the Computer level):
    Administrative Templates|NetSupport Student Settings|Connectivity|Room
  2. Set the following policy option to Enabled: Room.
  3. Then, enter the name of the room.

The next time the Student machines restart, the policy will apply to the machines and the Students will connect to their respective rooms.

Applying the Room name for the Tutors locally or via Group Policy

Option one: Configuring the room name locally

  1. Click Options in the Tutor Console and select Network Settings from the drop-down menu.
  2. Select Student Selection.

  1. Click the required option in the Room Mode section and enter the required room name(s).
  2. Click OK.

Option two: Configuring the room name via Group Policy

  1. First, create a GPO at the OU level of your choice and navigate to the policy setting (we recommend that you apply this at the Computer level):  Administrative Templates|NSS Tutor Settings|Student Selection|Room Mode
  2. Choose which policy to apply:– Select from a list of Rooms (useful if the Tutor is using a laptop and moves from classroom to classroom, for example).
    – Room Mode Details(if the Tutor machine is staying in a single room)
  3. Set the chosen policy to ENABLED and enter the room name(s)

Step 3
You will also need to apply the below policy to enable the Student selection mode to Room mode on the Tutor Console. This will configure the Tutor Console to use the Room mode method of Student Selection at startup.

  1. Create a GPO at the level of your choice and navigate to the policy setting (we recommend that you apply this at the Computer level):
    Administrative Templates|NSS Tutor Settings|Student Selection.
  2. Set the following policy option to Enabled: Startup Connection Mode.
  3. Under Options, select Connect to Students in Room(s).
