Configuring the NetSupport Connectivity Server details for NetSupport School Students and Tutors by Group Policy (GPO)

This article applies to NetSupport School version 15.00. For information relating to version 14.00 and below, click here.

It is possible to configure the NetSupport Connectivity Server using the ADM templates provided with the NetSupport School Tutor installation.

First, you need to apply the ADMX and ADML templates to the PolicyDefinitions folder on your domain controller.

The templates can be found here (on a machine with the Tutor Console installed):

32bit C:\Program Files\NetSupport\NetSupport School\ADM Templates
64bit C:\Program Files (x86)\NetSupport\NetSupport School\ADM Templates

Place the ADMX files in the PolicyDefinitions folder and the ADML files in the language folder (en-US).

Open the Group Policy Management Console, create a policy at the level of your choice (we recommend a level high enough to include all the Students and Tutors machines, e.g. Domain level) and navigate to the following settings:
Note: We recommend applying the Server settings policies to the machines.

• Student configuration: Administrative Templates|NetSupport Student Settings|Connectivity|Transports
  The policy is called Use Name & Connectivity Server. Set this to ENABLED.
  Enter the Connectivity Server IP address, port number and the encrypted value of the Gateway key.*

• Tutor Console configuration: Administrative Templates|NSS Tutor Settings|Network Settings|TCP/IP Settings
  The policy is called Connectivity Server. Set this to ENABLED.
  Enter the Connectivity Server IP address, port number and the encrypted value of the Gateway key.**

* Getting the Gateway key encrypted value for the NetSupport School Student

1. On a machine with the NetSupport School Student installed, launch the Student Configurator: PCICFGUI.exe.This is located in:
   32bit C:\Program Files\NetSupport\NetSupport School
   64bit C:\Program Files (x86)\NetSupport\NetSupport School
2. Select Network Settings.
3. In the TCP/IP section, select Use Name & Connectivity Server and click Configure.

4. Enter the Connectivity Server IP address and port number.
5. Click Set and enter the plain text value of the Gateway key.
6. Click OK to save the changes. Click Yes when prompted to restart the Client service.
7. On the Server machine, right-click the NetSupport Connectivity Server Console icon in the taskbar and click Open.
8. Select the Clients tab. If all the details are correct, the machine will appear.
9. Open the Client32u.ini file located in:
   32bit C:\Program Files\NetSupport\NetSupport School
   64bit C:\Program Files (x86)\NetSupport\NetSupport School
10. Retrieve the encrypted value after GSKU=.

** Getting the Gateway key encrypted value for the NetSupport School Tutor

1. On a machine with the Tutor Console installed, click Options in the Tutor Console and select Network Settings from the drop-down menu.
2. Select Network and wireless settings.
3. In the TCP/IP section, select Use Name & Connectivity Server and click Settings.

4. Enter the Connectivity Server details, click Set and enter the plain text value of the Gateway key.
5. Click OK and then OK to save the settings.
6. Open regedit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\NetSupport Ltd\PCICTL\ConfigList\NetSupport School
7. Copy the encrypted value found under HTTP\Gateway_Gsku_1.

Note: We recommend that you keep a trace of these encrypted values for any future use.

You can now add the encrypted values to the GPOs to apply to your NetSupport School Students and Tutor Consoles.
