Originally, within NetSupport Manager when the Control machine viewed the Client machine with the Scale to Fit option enabled if the resolutions differed between the Control and Client and you increased or decreased the size of the View window, then the Client view could appear stretched or compressed.

From NetSupport Manager version 12, aspect ratio was implemented to keep the correct aspect ratio when the Control viewed a Client machine. For instance, if the Client machine resolution was 1280×960 and the Control machine was 1280×1024 the View window adapts so that the user can see all of the Client machines.

By default, aspect ratio is enabled on the Control machine; however, in certain cases, when enabling both Aspect Ratio and Scale to Fit a grey gap can appear in the View window. This can occur when the Client machine resolution is smaller or larger than the Control machine’s resolution. For instance, the Control machine is 1024×760, but the Client machine is 1280×960, when this is made smaller to fit the Control machine screen it leaves a gap.

Disabling aspect ratio will prevent the grey gap from occurring. This can be disabled by default by applying a registry value to the NetSupport Manager Control machine:

  1. Open the Registry Editor on the Control machine.
  2. Navigate to the following location:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\NetSupport Ltd\PCICTL\ConfigList\Standard
  3. Add the following string value:
    Value name: View\KeepAspect
    Value: 0
    Value type: String

If you want to change this back to be enabled by default again, change the above value to 1.

This article is advising you to modify the registry, and you do so at your own risk. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow the steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it.
