There are four different ways to configure NetSupport School for Mac so that when the Tutor runs, it only connects to the Students that you require for that lesson.

Method 1 – Connect to a room
This is the default student selection mode and recommended connection method.

Configure the NetSupport School for Mac Tutor

  1. Select {File}{Configuration} from the Tutor console drop-down menu.
  2. Select Student Selection.

  1. Click the Connect to Students in Room(s): option and enter the room name.
  2. Click OK.

Configure the NetSupport School for Mac Student

  1. Navigate to /Applications/NetSupport/NetSupportSchool.
  2. Double click on the Config icon.
  3. When prompted, enter an admin user name and password.
  4. Select General.

  1. Select one of the following options depending on your environment:
      • This computer is always located in the following room:
        Select this option if the computer is always located in the same classroom and enter the room name.
      • This is a mobile computer and may be in one of the following rooms:
        Select this option if this is a mobile computer and is located in different rooms, enter the required rooms and separate each value with a comma.
      • This is a mobile computer and its room will be entered manually
        Select this option if this is a mobile computer and you would like the Student to manually select the room that they are currently in.

Note: Roaming Students who are configured to manually enter the room, do this from the Student icon in the menu bar. If the Student icon is hidden in the menu bar using the ‘Quiet Mode’ setting in the User Interface tab, the Student will not be able to select a room.

Method 2 – Connect to a Known List of Students
Configure the NetSupport School for Mac Tutor

  1. Select {File}{Configuration} from the Tutor console drop-down menu.
  2. Select Student Selection.

  1. Click the Connect to a list of Students option.
  2. Click OK.
  3. A message will appear advising that there are no machines defined and do you want to add some now? Click Yes.
  4. The Modify Known List dialog will appear.

  1. Click Browse.
  2. A list of available Students will be displayed. Click Add to add the required Student to the Known List.
  3. Click Close. The Tutor will connect to the Known List of Students.

Method 3 – Connect by browsing for Students
Configure the NetSupport School for Mac Tutor

  1. Select {File}{Configuration} from the Tutor console drop-down menu.
  2. Select Student Selection.

  1. Click the Browse and connect to Students starting with: option.
  2. Enter the first few characters of the Student machine names, e.g. Class1 (this will return all Students where the machine name starts with Class1).
  3. Click OK.

Method 4 – Using TCP/IP port numbers
Configure the NetSupport School for Mac Tutor

  1. Select {File}{Configuration} from the Tutor console drop-down menu.
  2. Select Network Settings.

  1. Change the port number to another four or five-digit number (take care not to use a port in use by other software on your network).

Configure the NetSupport School for Mac Student

  1. Navigate to /Applications/NetSupport/NetSupportSchool.
  2. Double click on the Config icon.
  3. When prompted, enter an admin user name and password.
  4. Select Advanced.

  1. In the TCP/IP options set the four or five-digit port number (ensure that this is the same as the port number set at the Tutor).
