Connecting to Students using Room mode

NetSupport School provides a quick and easy method to deploy and connect to Students located in a given room. When the Tutor is started, a Welcome wizard appears, allowing you to define your chosen room name, assign PCs to the room and deploy the Student software to those machines. At the start of a lesson, the teacher indicates which of the pre-defined rooms they want to connect to. ‘Roaming’ Students can also connect to a designated room.

Deploying the NetSupport School Student to workstations with a room specified

1. Start the NetSupport School Tutor.
2. When the Welcome wizard appears, select Classroom.
3. Enter an IP address range for the machines that you want to deploy to.
4. Click OK.

5. In the Room field, enter your chosen room name.
6. Highlight the required student machines from the Available Computers list and click Add.
7. Click Finish to deploy the NetSupport School Student to the machines.
8. Once the deployment has completed, the Tutor will connect to the student machines in the room.

Configuring the room at the Tutor
You can configure the NetSupport School Tutor to connect to a different room.

1. Click Options in the Tutor Console and select Network Settings from the drop-down menu.
2. Select Student Selection.

3. Click the Connect to Students in Room(s) option and enter the required room name.
4. To allow students to join your room, click Acknowledge Roaming Students.
5. Click Prompt at startup if you want the Tutor to be prompted to enter a room value each time the Tutor starts.
6. Click OK.

Configuring the room at the Student
The room settings can also be configured at the Student in the NetSupport School Student Configurator. This allows you to configure whether the computer is always located in the same room or if this is a mobile (roaming) computer.

1. Open the NetSupport School Student Configurator from the NetSupport School program group.
2. Select Room.

3. Select one of the following options depending on your environment:

• • • This computer is always located in the following room:
      Select this option if the computer is always located in the same classroom and enter the room name.
    • This is a mobile computer and may be in one of the following rooms:
      Select this option if this is a mobile computer and is located in different rooms, enter the required rooms and separate each value with a comma.
    • This is a mobile computer and its room will be entered manually
      Select this option if this is a mobile computer and you would like the Student to enter the room they are in manually. If you want a list of available rooms to be displayed, allowing the Student to choose which one to connect to, select Display available rooms.

Note: Roaming students who are configured to manually enter the room do this from the Student icon in the system tray. If the Student icon is hidden in the system tray, the Student can still manually enter the room by running the setroom.exe. This file is located in the NetSupport School program folder on the Student machine.
