This article covers the recommended upgrade procedure for updating NetSupport Notify to the latest version.

First, you need to download the latest installer file. The easiest way to do this as an existing customer is to register for a My Support account on our website (if you haven’t already) at www.netsupportsoftware.com/support.

For further information on the My Support registration process, please refer to the following technical article: Registering your license key on the My Support portal.

Once you have registered your Notify license within your My Support account, you can then email yourself a copy of the NSN.lic file from the ‘My Licenses’ section. If you place a copy of the NSN.lic file in the same folder as the setup.exe installer file, when you run the upgrade on the server, it will automatically apply this license to the installation and prevent the need to register your license after the upgrade has been completed.

To upgrade the Notification Server, you can simply run the latest setup.exe installer file over the top of the existing installation. This will perform an in-place upgrade of the software, keeping the existing configuration in place. Before executing the installation on the server, it is recommended to take a backup of the following registry key and files as a precaution:

  1. Export the following registry key to a *.reg file: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Productive Computer Insight\Gateway.
  2. Take a copy of the ‘Gateway.db’ file located on the server in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\NSL\Connectivity Server.
  3. If it exists, take a copy of the ‘nsn-custom.dat’ from the server in C:\Program Files (x86)\NetSupport\NetSupport Notify.

Once the server has been upgraded, you can then roll out the latest version of the Notify Agent over the top of your existing installations and this will perform an in-place upgrade of those as well.

Your existing version Agents are backwards compatible and will connect to the Notification Server once it has been upgraded to the latest version. Therefore, you can perform the upgrade on the server first and then roll out the latest version to the Agents later. However, we would strongly recommend upgrading the Agents to the latest version to ensure that they include all of the latest features that are available on the server.

The latest version of the Agent can either be deployed via the NetSupport Notify deployment tool, which is included with the software or as an upgrade package via Group Policy/Intune etc. (if that’s how you originally installed the software).
