Creating a NetSupport DNA eSafety Operator that will only see certain parts of the DNA Console PC and User hierarchy

Within NetSupport DNA, it is possible to create eSafety contacts that will only be able to access the features of NetSupport DNA required for safeguarding purposes. This includes the following components:

• • User Details
  • Activity Monitor
  • eSafety (Phrase Monitoring\Report a Concern)
  • Internet Metering.

By default, when creating an eSafety contact (using the Safeguarding Users option in the ribbon), they will be able to access all areas of the PC and User hierarchy tree when they log in and they will also receive email notifications from any phrase alerts from all machines with a NetSupport DNA Agent installed.

You can limit access to the PC and User hierarchy tree for eSafety contacts to specific areas of the tree, for example, to allow an eSafety contact access to only a particular year group. You would then only want this eSafety contact to receive email notifications for phrases triggered from Agents in the departments they have access to.

This is possible from NetSupport DNA 4.60.0002; however, when creating an eSafety contact, you need to follow the steps below:

Step 1 – Create a role
A role needs to be created that will only allow access to the required components and specific PC\User departments.

1. Log into the NetSupport DNA Console with administrator permissions.
2. Select the Settings tab.
3. Click Operators.
4. In the Operators dialog, click Roles.

5. Click .
6. Enter a name for the role, e.g. Year 11 eSafety role.
7. Select Administrator operator (the permissions will be copied) and click OK.

8. In the Console Role dialog, use the Root PC Departments and Root User Departments options to select which departments you want the eSafety contact to see.
9. In the Access Rights section, ensure only the following are selected (you can add more rights to the role if required):
   • Activity
   • eSafety
   • Internet Metering
   • User Details
   • Other Functionality – Can view component queries
   • Other Functionality – Can view reports.

10. Click OK to save the role.
11. Repeat the steps above for any additional roles you would like to create.

Step 2 – Create a Console Operator
A Console Operator account will then need to be created and linked to the required role.

1. Select the Settings tab.
2. Click Operators.
3. Click Add.

4. Enter the following information for the Operator:
   • Name
   • Phone number (if required)
   • Email address.
5. From the Permissions section, select Operator.
6. Choose the required role to assign to this Operator from the Role drop-down list.

7. Click OK. You will be prompted to enter a password for the Operator.
8. Click OK to save the Operator.

Step 3 – Create an eSafety contact
An eSafety contact will need to be created and linked to the newly created Console Operator.

1. Select the Home tab.
2. Click the eSafety icon.
3. Under the Manage section of the ribbon, click Safeguarding Users.
   Note: If this option is greyed out, you need to enable Report a Concern in the DNA Configuration – Report Concern settings.
4. The Configure Safeguarding Users dialog will appear.
5. Click Add.

6. Enter the following information for the eSafety contact (this is what will appear to a student when they report a concern):
   • Name
   • Email
   • Description.
7. Select whether this contact will receive concerns and whether they will be notified of all concerns or just ones reported to them.
8. Select Receive email when phrases are triggered.
9. In the Console user section, select Associated Console user and choose the Operator account created in step 2 from the drop-down list.

10. Click OK.

Once complete, we recommend logging into NetSupport DNA as the newly created Console Operator to ensure they are only able to see the areas of PC/User hierarchy tree associated with the role and the Console is limited to the eSafety components specified in step 1.
