In NetSupport School version 11.00.0000, changes were made to how the layout feature works when using Room mode to connect to Students. You will no longer need to save or load a layout file, so these options have been removed from the Tutor Console user interface.

Note: This article only applies up to NetSupport School version 14.00.0015.

When using Room mode, a layout file is automatically created against the room selected. A different layout file is created for each room name you have configured and when you start the Tutor and select your room, the layout file will automatically load to one that matches the room selected. The layout files have the following naming convention: RoomName_Layout.lyt.

If the Tutor Console is not configured to use the Room mode, the layout files will be called _Layout.lyt. By default, it is not possible to save or load any layout files from the Tutor Console when using a different connection mode.

Enabling access to save and load layout files
If you require access to save and load layout files when using a connection mode other than Room mode, you can restore these options by applying a registry key to the Tutor Console.

  1. Open the Registry Editor on the Tutor Console machine.
  2. Navigate to the following location:
    HKEY_Current_User\Software\NetSupport Ltd\PCICTL\ConfigList\NetSupport School
  3. Add the following string value to the above location:
    Value name: UI\EnableSaveLayout
    Value: 1

After applying the above registry option, the save and load layout menu options will appear in the Layout menu in the Tutor Console.

Note: The load and save options will continue to be disabled when using Room mode even after applying the above key.

This article is advising you to modify the registry, and you do so at your own risk. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow the steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it.
