Preventing ClearType text from being disabled during a remote control session in NetSupport School/Manager

This article applies to NetSupport Manager version 12.80 and below. To see steps on how to use this on version 14.00 and above, click here.

By default, when you connect to a NetSupport Manager or School Client, ClearType text within Windows is disabled to improve the performance of the remote control session over slower network connections. You can prevent this from happening by making a change within the configuration of the Client machines.

You can either configure this within the Client32U.ini and Client32.ini files on the Client machines or via Group Policy using the ADMX Template files.

Configure manually via the Client32U.ini and Client32.ini files

  1. On the Client machine, navigate to the NetSupport Manager/School installation folder:

32bit C:Program FilesNetSupportNetSupport Manager
64bit C:Program Files (x86)NetSupportNetSupport Manager
Or
32bit C:Program FilesNetSupportNetSupport School
64bit C:Program Files (x86)NetSupportNetSupport School

  1. From here, locate the Client32.ini and Client32U.ini files and open in Notepad.
  2. Add the following text to the Client32.ini and Client32U.ini files and save:

[View]
EnableLVShadow=1
EnableFontSmoothing=1

  1. You will need to re-checksum the file – for information on how to do this, click here.
  2. Restart the machine to enable the new setting.

Configuring via Group Policy
To apply this setting to Clients via Group Policy, you first need to import the ADMX Template files into your Active Directory. Please see the following technical articles for details on how to do this:
